Legio Sancti
From Ex illis wiki
The Legio Sancti is Archangel Michael’s personal army. Unlike Lengadòc’s army, which is made up of different feudal lords and their own troops, the Legio Sancti is the Archangel’s personal guard. He raises this army right after arriving in Christendom and which he leads for the most part of his existence. Thus, for several years, the Legio Sancti is considered as a body of veterans, a powerful force integrating among its ranks only the best angelic warriors. During the Rückeroberung and the Crozada Coeli, it is regularly sent in the most difficult areas and wins a great majority of the battles it fights. Its only great defeat is that of the siege of Roma where the French and Sicilian forces get the better of the angels’ last efforts. However, at that moment, Michael, obeying the pope’s orders, had already handed over the army’s commands to Uriel and had withdrawn from the battlefield with several angels and a few innocent inhabitants whom he managed to save.
When Michael seizes Lengadòc, a region torn apart by persecutions and the Inquisition, in 1292, almost all of his soldiers remain faithful to him and fight by his side without asking questions or dwelling on the situation’s strangeness. The Legio Sancti’s reputation precedes it, the resistance is rather weak, and the afflicted people quickly learn to respect it. Michael then integrates the Toulousain forces to his army, but leaves the commands of their own armies to the lords. He also takes the time to settle down in Lengadòc and rebuild its meagre forces, decimated by the Crozada Coeli, before undertaking the ultimate goal of his new mission: destroying the French royalty and the papacy which he despises since the accession of Clemens V in 1292.
