Broken Wing

The Broken Wing is a mercenary company that is particularly active in the North-West of England. It sells its services to any lord with the coins to pay and is not concerned by their allegiances or the cause they defend. However, it is particularly renowned for its raids against Arthur’s Cymru and it is also known for supporting Thomas Plantagenet, the Earl of Lancaster, in the run for the English regency. Thus, since the beginning of the conflict, it remained faithful to Lancaster, the first lord to hire it.

The company’s founding members are, for the most part, angels who, after being repudiated by the Church in 1292, suffer the persecutions of other fleaudians and become vagabonds, known for numerous pillages. During these years of misery, they meet groups of fallen angels with whom they associate and form small groups of independent mercenaries. Then, they sell their warrior skills to any lord ready to pay. With the passing of time, these small groups come together to form a single mercenary company, quite imposing by its number, but even more by its strength. To this day, it represents the only organised group gathering so many angels and fallen angels among its ranks, two opposed species fighting side by side and sharing achievements just as they share board and lodging.

The Broken Wing is inspired by the Antiquity’s Roman armies’ division since the angels reproduce the only military hierarchy they know and master enough to apply to their company: that of the Papal armies. Despite the integration of this rigorous military structure, the small mercenary army is renowned for its lack of discipline. Indeed, many angels are not really prone to follow orders with which they disagree and, often, they prefer to act as they please in order to avoid unfortunate consequences.
